Ledisi

Soul sensation Ledisi Anibade Young was born in the jazz capital, New Orleans, and comes from a long line of African-American musicians.

Perhaps not surprisingly, after 13 Grammy nominations, it was for "Best Traditional R&B Performance" that she finally received her first golden gramophone?

As a vocalist, Ledisi's strength lies in her range, covering a span of four octaves, and incorporating singing techniques from the African-American jazz tradition, some of which date back to plantation slavery.

Ledisi exudes warmth on stage, confidence, and delivers the lyrics with power. John Legend cannot praise Ledisi enough:

"As a contemporary vocalist, there is almost no one else in the world that I can think of who is as skillful in singing as she is"... "When it comes to range, skill, clarity, versatility, she can do anything she wants. She is one of the greatest singers in the world, period."

Other notable admirers include the Obama family, Prince, and Stevie Wonder.

Ledisi has released several albums, with the latest being "Ledisi Sings Nina" from 2021, where the singer interprets Nina Simone's lyrics in her own unique way. Ledisi was deeply inspired after hearing Simone sing "Trouble in Mind" on the radio when she was in a depressed mood. "She saved my life," Ledisi has stated about Simone.

"Ledisi" means "to bring out" in the West African language Yoruba. The "soul sensation" is ready to resonate with her clear voice and captivate the audience at Cosmopolite!
